Stop Pushing My Buttons!

As a schizophrenic, I find I am especially vulnerable to people lying to me and "messing with my mind."  People love to push others' buttons, and when you struggle with paranoia and delusions, you have a lot of buttons.

The best shield?  God.  And no I don't mean that dead guy hanging on the cross.  I mean the real living Ghost who loves you the most.

People are natural born liars and meanies, but with God on your side, you will win every time!

The Value of Entertainment

I have found that music is an incredible coping tool and life enhancer.  I listen to music every day.  I also like to watch TV.

Support from a Higher Power

I believe that schizophrenics have a rare talent that most people don't possess.  And that is a capacity for incredibly strong faith.

People with schizophrenia often report that God speaks to them.  I believe He absolutely does!  We have a special combination of courage and imagination, that let us have a very close relationship with God.

I believe that God has specifically blessed us this way, and set us apart as extremely special to Him.

I don't think God wants to "cure" us, but wants us to keep taking our meds and be stable and happy.

Caffeine and Depression

I have found that caffeine works better than anti-depressants.  With anti-depressants I either quickly develop a tolerance to them, or they give me way too much on-edge energy.

"They" say caffeine is "bad" and interferes with medication.  But I think most mentally ill people know that caffeine works, just don't overdo it.

I find that tea is too weak to provide relief.  Coffee works really well.  And a caffeine pill now and then gets the job done perfectly.

One note about really strong coffee I have to add:  Long term use (several years of daily dosing) can create a minor ulcer-like pain in the small intestine.  So I wouldn't suggest heavy coffee drinking for years at a time, "just for the hell of it."  If you develop that "ulcer" just try to cut way back.  I've noticed that the caffeine pill doesn't irritate the condition.

When it comes to caffeine pills, one is enough, two is an overdose.  If you take more than one, you won't get high, you'll get sick.

So if you get that feeling like you're on the edge of death, have a cup or two of coffee and see how you feel.  I bet you'll agree caffeine is a miracle.

Welcome

Hello.  If thru some miracle you have found this blog, you probably have schizophrenia, or know someone who has it.

I've started this blog because there is little to no personal support for schizophrenics on the web.

I have had schizophrenia for 15 years.  I've struggled, learned lessons the hard way, but now find myself stable and happy.  So, yes, there absolutely is Hope!

More to come later.
